Various types of Lentils Recipe 

Lentils is small but nutritionally it mighty member of legume. It us excellent source of molybdenum and folate. We can cook it various process. Here is some Bangladeshi recipe of lentils.

1.Green Mango Lentils

Ingredients

Lentils 1 cup

Green Mango slice 3-4 pieces

2 Medium Onion chopped

2 Medium garlic chopped

1 Green chili slice

Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

Salt to taste

Oil to taste

Method

First lentils washed well. Now it will be boiled.

In a pan add lentils and water and boiled on medium heat. After 4-5 minutes add salt,half chopped onion and half chopped garlic. Boiled it 6-7 minutes. Now mix well with water.

In an another pan,add oil and heat well. Now add half onion and garlic chopped and fry it until golden colour. Then add boiled lentils and green mango slice. Cook it 3-4 minutes on medium heat.

2.Liquid Lentils:

Ingredients

Lentils 1 cup

2 medium onion chopped

2 medium garlic chopped

1 Green chili slice

Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

Salt and Oil to taste

Water 300 ml

Method

First lentils washed well and mix with water and salt and boiled it.  After 3-4 minutes, add half onion and garlic chopped, turmeric powder. Now it boiled in well and after few minutes mix well with water.

Now add oil in another pan and heat well. Then add onion and garlic. Now fry until golden colour. Then add liquid lentils. Now cook it 3-4 minutes on medium heat.

3.Egg Lentils

Ingredients

4 Egg

Lentils 1 and 1/2 cup

Garlic paste 1 teaspoon

Turmeric powder 2 teaspoon

Coriander powder 2 teaspoon

Method

First cook liquid lentils.

Another pan fry egg or boiled egg fry.

Now add it liquid lentils.

4.Gourd Lentils

Ingredients

1/2 Gourd slice

Lentils 250 gm

Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon

Red chili powder 1/2 teaspoon

Cumin powder 1 teaspoon

Green chili 3-4 pieces

Coriander leaves chopped 1 tabspoon

Garlic paste 1 teaspoon

Salt & oil to taste

Method

At first gourd & lentils well washed.

Heat oil in a pan and fry onion until it brown. Mix all ingredients except gourd and lentils. After 3-4 minutes adds lentils. Now add some water

and covered it. Then add gourd and cook minimum 15-20 minutes. When it will thickly then add cumin powder, green chili and coriander leaves chopped. Now cook it 2-3 minutes.

Then it ready for serve.

5. Tomato lentils

Ingredients

Lentils 250 gm

Tomato 200 gm

Onion chopped 1/2 cup

3 Green chili slice

Coriander leaves chopped 2 tabspoon

1 Garlic slice

Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon

Salt to taste

Oil to taste

Method

First lentils wash.

Heat oil in a pan and fry onion. Add lentils, garlic, turmeric powder, salt and water and cook it 10-12 minutes. Then add tomato, green chili,coriander leaves chopped.Now cook for 2-3 minutes.

Then it ready.

6. Lentils bora/Peyajo

It is crispy food,basically used at  Iftar in holy Ramadan.

Ingredients

Lentils ( thicky blend) 2 cup

Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

Green chili /red chili chopped 1 teaspoon

Onion chopped 2 teaspoon

Salt to taste

Oil for deep fry

Method

Mix all ingredients and take into ball shape. Now fry in oil.

Remove extra oil use tissue .

7. Gourd Tomato lentils 

Ingredients

Lentils 1 cup

Gourd cut into small pieces 2cup

Tomato cut into small pieces 1 cup

Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

Green chili 4 pieces

Onion chopped 3 tabspoon

Garlic chopped 2 tabspoon

Coriander leaves chopped 3 tabspoon

Water 5 cup

Salt to taste

Oil 2 tabspoon

Method

First lentils wash well and mix turmeric powder and water .Now it will be boil.Then it blend.Mix gourd and covered it.When gourd will be boiled than add tomato chopped. Add coriander leaves.

Now heat oil in a pan and add onion chopped and fry it until brown. Add green chili and garlic chopped and fry on medium heat.

Now add boiled lentils. Cook for 1-2 minutes.

Serve with white rice or roti.

8. Paling (Spinage) lentils

Ingredients

Lentils 1 cup

Onion chopped 2 tabspoon

Garlic paste 1 tabspoon

Chili chopped 1 teaspoon

Ginge chopped 1/2 teaspoon

Tomato cube 1 cup

Tomato sauce 1/4 cup

Chili powder 1/2 cup

Turmeric powder 1/2 cup

Slat to taste

Spinage chopped 1 cup

Water 2 cup

Oil as needed

Method

Heat oil in a pan and add  all ingredients except lentils,tomato cube and Spinage chopped. Cook it 2-3 minutes. Then add tomato cube.

Now add lentils, water and salt.Cook it 5-6 minutes.

Then add spinage chopped and tomato sauce. Cook for 4-5 minutes on medium heat.

Now it ready.

9. Brinjal with Lentils

Ingredients

Bringal cube 1 cup

Lentils 1 cup

Onion chopped 2 tabspoon

Garlic chopped 1 tabspoon

Green chili 2-3 pieces

Tomato cube 1/2 cup

Cumin powder 1 teaspoon

Coriander powder 1 teaspoon

Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

Salt to taste

Method

Heat oil in a pan.Add onion and fry it until brown. Mix garlic chopped and chili chopped.

Now add tomato.When it soft then add cumin powder, coriander powder, salt and turmeric powder. Add water and cook 1-2 minutes.

Add lentils and cook it 3-4 minutes on medium heat. Now add brinjal and fry it 1-2 minutes. Add water and cover it.Cook it 5-6 minutes on medium heat.

Finally add coriander leaves for garnishing.

10. Vegetables with Lentils

Ingredients

Cowpea 1 cup

Greenbanana 1/2 cup

Lentils 1 cup

Onion chopped 2 tabspoon

Green chili 2-3 pieces

Tomato cube 1 cup

1 Potato chopped

Garlic 2-3 pieces

Coriander leaves 2 tabspoon

Shrimp dry fish 6-7 pieces

Maximum 20 minutes keep lentils in water.

Method

Heat oil in a pan and add onion chopped, garlic and fry it until brown. Add red chili powder, turmeric powder and water .Then add shrimp dry fish and cook it 3-4 minutes. Now add all vegetables and lentils. Cook it on medium heat.After 4-5 minutes add 2-3 cup hot water and cook again 4-5 minutes.

Finally add green chili chopped and coriander leaves chopped for garnishing.
