Culture : Music in Bangladesh

The music styles of Bangladesh may be divided into three categories. These are classical, folk, and Modern. Bangladesh has a nice tradition of folk songs. The most prevent folk songs and music  traditions include Bhatiali, Baul, Marfati, Murshidi and Bhawaiya. Also lyrics like Lalon Shah, Hasan Raja, Romesh Shill, Abbas Uddin, Kangal Harinath, Shah Abdul Karim  and many unknown anonymous lyricists have enriched the folk songs of Bangladesh. Robindro songit and Nazrul git  cultural heritage of Bangladesh.Runa Laila and Sabina Yeasmin is world class singer in Bangladesh.

Bhatiali is a boat song . Its sung by boatman. When he going down streams of the river. It is mostly sung in Mymensingh district of Bangladesh. Bhatiali songs are traditionally about boating, fishing and river.

Baul basically it is a group of mystic minstrels. Its a very heterogeneous group with many sects but three membership mainly consists of Vaishnava Hindus and Sufi Muslims. We can identified them by their distinctive clothes and musical instruments. Lalon Shah/ Fokir  is regarded as the most important poet practitioner of the Baul  song . In 2005 , the Bail tradition was included in the list of ” Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO “.

Bhawaiya  it is a one of the most popular folk song of Bangladesh. It is origin of Rangpur district.
